How do I fix my dishwasher door?

I have a dishwasher that is about three years old.

The door latch is starting to fail. When you push up on the latch to open it, it's getting harder and harder to get it to release.

The dishwasher is an Amana, SofSound I.

Points and alot of appreciation to the first one who can tell me how to fix it. Please also provide a link to any information, especially if its a complicated fix.

I just tried to open it and now the outside handle seems to have come completely disconnected -- its moving around loose within the door!

You can try adjusting the latch distance for the door
there may be an adjustment on the latch catch on the dishwasher that you could move closer to the door

on the door itself
if you open the door and drop it down you should see about 5 screws around the top the and top of the sides
remove these screws and the top of your door should drop(be gentle)
you should then be able to see your latch
you can check if it needs lubed or if its out of adjustment, possibly closer to the catch
reassemble and try it out
