Dishwasher Impeller
How can I get to my dishwater- water inlet valve to clean the screen?

Several years ago I was shown where the screen was in my dishwasher but I can't remember how to get to it. I have a frigidaire model FDP635RFR5. The technician was kind enough to show me where the piece was located so that I could clean it when necessary. Is it at the water inlet valve? Do I get to it by taking the left side of the unit off? All I have to do is rinse the screen off from debris. I have a well and sometimes after a long while some sand gets into places it shouldn't and my dishes come out badly after washing and the regular maintenance like cleaning out the arms and impeller are not working. Any advice out there? Thanks!
My dishwasher does NOT have a kick panel. I discovered that (with the help of my husband). We had to put the dishwasher on its back to get to the underneath and that's how we accessed the dishwater inlet valve. Thanks anyway!

All dishwashers have the water inlet valve located in the lower right front of the dishwasher. Make sure the water supply to the d/w is shut off. Remove the bottom kick panel from the front and you will see the valve. The water line will be either copper tubing (on older models) or plastic tubing. Uncouple the line from the valve and the screen should be just inside where the line was connected. Have a shallow tray under the valve, as water from the line will come out upon uncoupling. Remove the lower rack from inside the d/w. You will see the drain - check for debris. The impeller can be cleaned by using a wet-vac to suck out all blockage as well as the drain area. The lower arm should come off with no problem, but the upper arm may be a little more difficult. One way to help prevent it from happening again is to installed a filter between the faucet line and the feed line to the d/w. It will be much easier to clean that filter than to do what you have to do now.
